Just a few questions/comments from your "part-time" webmaster:

1. Do you want me to delete completely some of the "masturbation prattles"
pages from the Wiki? Which ones?
===============================================
G:
Don't lose a minute Nobody reads them anyway.
Masturbation does not sit in pages, but in
attitude.
===============================================
2. There may actually be more recent activity than it is currently visible on
"Recent" and "Comments" pages. Because "blog" and "forum" are add-ons to the
Wiki, the new submissions to them do not appear on the "Recent" page (top Wiki
menu). I'll try to correct this.
===============================================
G:
There is NO activity so far, just prattle.
===============================================
3. What Bruce is doing (local referenda) is very valuable. But can a single
person organize something like that in a community with one million
inhabitants? That would be impossible with putting at first some DD structure
in place, and securing the means (financing) for a referendum in a
million-people city.
===============================================
G:
Give him thousand years and all Bill Gates' money
and he may organise a global scope Referendum.
If it were in Germany of 1933, 95% would vote
for Hitler. In today's France 65% would vote
for windmills. Referendum may give a snapshot,
common place, idiotic "opinion" of the ignorant,
misinformed, manipulated bandwagon.
With respect of the current Europe Constitution
Referendum in France, 90% French agree that
they don't know, let alone understand what it
is about and that the "information" issued by the
government completely muddles the issue. The
result will be random, triggered by some last
moment clever intervention of some cunning
demagogue.
Back to Bruce, before he organises a global
Referendum they will put him in jail, because
it's illegal, or more simply, he will have a
fatal motor accident.
While coordinating our successful windmills
Forum I got several death threats.
===============================================
Therefore other activities (such as Georges' simulations in smaller groups)
are also important to prepare for the acceptance of DD.
===============================================
G:
Then why nobody from WDDM participates in our
"Democracy" Forum? Not that the Forum needs it,
but it would be a chance for WDDM to quit
masturbation.
===============================================
In this context, I would return to my earlier post about WDDM mission. It
was probably not well understood. I was not doubting that our goal (principle
mission) is the promotion and achievement of DD. I was suggesting to try to
come up with what we, in this for now small group, can do to achieve this goal.
Could we think about it some more? What can we concentrate on?
===============================================
G:
Just join the Workshop. It deals exactly with
your issue.
===============================================
One obvious thing is to use WDDM as a place to report on our local practical
efforts, as Bruce suggest.
===============================================
G:
I did and what's the result?
===============================================
...
A related question: Is there any place in DD for leaders? Or better: What is
the role of leaders/facilitators in DD? Some people are more initiative than
others. They instigate change. Do we need some formal checks to prevent them to
also usurp most of the decision making?
===============================================
G:
Not for you, nor,for that matter for me, to say,
but for the DD Forum to decide how it structures
itself.
Some related situations jump to the mind.
In case of a natural catastrophe, do we want
a referendum to decide to call in army to save
who and what may be saved, when hours count?
Attacked by some neo-fascists, do we want a
referendum to chose one or another defence
scenario, informing BTW the ennemy about all
involved details?
Having to decide about financing one of several
cosmic research options, we will face about 10
people in the world who would know what's that
about. Do we want Mr. Mr. Smith, Dupond and
Ivanov to make the evaluation in their stead?
===============================================
To finish, my opinion for what it's worth:
You did and do admirable work. Your structures
are not ideal (what is?), but good enough to
support eventual concrete initiatives and to
be improved by experience, on the go.
It's not your fault that WDDM attracted so far
impotent prattlers.
So don't worry about your part and don't invest
too much in improving site's structures.
All we can hope for is that WDDM will attract some
normally constituted constructive people.
Try to think how to attract them.

Georges.
