Hi Bruce et al,

This post was the precurser to the 'Great Direct Democracy Experiment', an attempt to select a candidate for office using Fred Gohlke's 'Active Democracy' system.

myverdict.net was to be used for registering an interest. If a sizeable portion of any electorate, anywhere, were interested, then myverdict would act as a focal point for discussions etc.

It would not act as an electoral commission and would not decide how the 'active democracy' process would be run. This would be entirely in the hands of said electorate.

As the process would involve selecting a candidate from the people, by the people and not by party list or government decree, I consider this to be an exercise in direct democracy and an appropriate use of myverdict.net.

Whether the chosen candidate was elected or not, the 'active democracy' process would have been trialled and its benefits or otherwise would be apparent.

I can see no problem supporting a candidate that has been thus selected by the people.

Regards

Roy
