Dear Josep and all world unity e-mailers,

I agree with Josep's suggestions below.
However, I was unable to access the membership application form on visiting:
http://groups.google.com/group/worldcit

Meanwhile, Gary K Shepherd <gshepher(at)lib.siu.edu>
editor of the occasional magazine 'United World' of
Documents Center, Morris Library, SIU -- 401 S. Dixon
Carbondale IL 62901 U S A

which discusses world governance proposals,
has offered to keep
central &/or backup lists of committed world citizens / world unity
activists.

I suggest that all like-minded groups and individuals might get
(or keep) the 'snowball' rolling by giving contact details, including
only data that they are willing to have made public in each case
(like the following -- other views welcome):

Friends,

I am not sure we are focusing this discussion enough to make some progress. I would like to present the following points to bring some order and see if this time we can advance towards a common database or registry of world citizen activists.

1. The original idea of a common database of world citizen activists has surely been around for some time and been proposed time and again by different people. It makes no sense to try to claim original authorship of the idea.
2. A common database of world citizen activists is different from the world citizen registries already existent that want to be politically neutral and that give passports or world citizen cards.
3. To create such common database, we should create a separate form that can be embedded into any wishing website and that sends content a single administrator email address. Alternatively, webmasters could create their own forms with the same fields, using the database administrator's email address.
4. Cosmopolitan organizations should either ask members for permission to add their data to the common database or invite them to do so directly by filling the form.
5. All forms for affiliation to cosmopolitan organizations or projects, or polls, should include a question on agreeing to be added to the common database.
6. The database should have backup systems to avoid accidental loosing of data.
7. The database administration rights should be shared by several people, including some representative of organizations with no risk of disappearance.
8. The database would allow for messaging the members but no direct discussion among them. Individuals and organizations could ask administrators to forward messages to all members.

I believe the form for signing the Manifesto for World Citizenship and Democratic Global Governance and the list of signatories can be the basis for such a common database. 31 organizations have endorsed the Manifesto. However, it is unlikely that the added membership of all this organizations doesn't exceed the 104 current individual signatories.

To start the common database, we only need organizations one by one adding or inviting members. The current form can be substituted for an independent one that can be embedded into websites. I can easily share administrative rights of the current mailing system. Everything else can be arranged in the future.

I see this as very easy to do, so what is the problem?

Josep
