This is one of the most brilliant messages i've read on this list.
A while ago i read a shaman saying that this dream is already over, and
mankind is searching for a new one. Philosophers call the end of this
dream Postmodernity. Something is changing, yet nothing has changed.
What irritates me mostly is the attempt of some individuals to exploit
this temporary lack of dream for personal purposes masked with
humanitarian causes. Naive proposals aren't any better. Elections are
like giving a car to people who don't have the driving license: they
don't understand the basic mechanism of economics. Impossible to find
any institution that can inform people about it. Economy rules politics.
Democracy is no exception: in ancient Athens only masters could
effectively partecipate to polticial games. Slaves, metics and women
were not allowed to. The Suffragettes changed something, but the core of
the enterprise remains unaltered: with or without the universal right to
vote people in charge remain the same. Guess why? The only answer i have
found is education (or lack of it): instead of teching people how the
society works (stratifications and their role) primary education is just
a list of wonders about how smart this system is, and how ugly our past
was. This brainwashing technique works. From Marvin Harris to John
Zerzan there's a list of researchers who try to dismantle the myth of
modernity, or even premodernity.
I bet people are more aware in their unconscious than in their
conscious. It's harder and harder to find people who are fully satisfied
with their lifestyle, differently from our fathers. So the titanic fight
is between the end of the dream and the establishment that's trying to
keep the conscious winning over the unconscious. To do so all
scientists/technologists are required to produce their special effects
and media to sustain them.  Educators are required to say the same
idiocies and never evaluate the uprising unconscious. Parallel universes
is an accepted topic, not what social stratifications are for. In one of
my latest messages i have written about this. Should this list like to
open a debate about how this stratified society works, it could bring
some clarity in this area of knowledge that's been kept in the dark and
foggy cellar of awareness for obvious reasons.
